this time last year...

I was checking out the blog for around this time last year to see what was going on.

According to my post on February 11, 2009, we were already seeing tulips poking out of the soil.  Crazy.

It's not like that at the moment - there's too much snow piled up, so if the tulips are growing I'd never know.

Last week I brought in some Forsythia and Azalea branches for forcing.  We have several Forsythia bushes along the front of the house, parallel to the road and there are two in the backyard (actually, I guess that would be our new neighbors yard now...) - and we have an Azalea on either side of the house.

Yesterday evening after work, I noticed that some of the yellow flowers are already blooming.  I love that!  It makes me feel like spring and good weather are right around the corner.

Last year you were at least 2 weeks to 3 weeks earlier than my house which is just 40 miles to the west.

My guess is that spring will be slightly later this year due to snow coverage.

I'm ready for spring.

Forsythia is great, right! Such a sign that spring is around the corner!

I have a forsythia wreath that I put on our door in the spring and the silly birds always take away pieces. Guess they like it too!

Dynochick, I just updated my garden blog with my tulip siting from yesterday. We are 10 days behind and now we're expecting 8 inches of snow. bummer.

Charisa, thanks for reading my garden blog :)

Your forsythia wreath is made of real forsythia? did you make it? I bring in branches a couple of times in the late winter, so that I can have a touch of spring inside the house.

Yes, I made it, but it's unfortunately fake.

Yeah, I guess it would have to be - unless you brought in the branches, put it in wreath shape, wait a week for the flowers to bloom and then hang it on your door.

I supposed it could be done...
